Smartphones have changed the way people use and perceive technology. We have very little time these days and hence the need of smarter smartphones. Every other day, a new model is in the market, which strives to simplify everyday access of user’s applications and services. Increased RAM, longer battery life, better UI, increased storage, gestures, etc are the areas of focus while launching a smartphone. We as users are heavily dependent on our smartphones for a lot of reason.
- Information is just a Google search away!
- Finding a location or a route has been made easier by Google maps.
- Clicking pictures, shooting videos are put together in a single device.
- For sharing videos or audios to a remotely located person, instant messaging apps are there for your rescue!
- Word documents, excel files, presentations can be all stored together.
- Related services are synchronized together.
- Backup of mobile data onto Cloud.
A smartphone has become a pocket computer- the main reason why we are strongly dependent on it. Going counterclockwise, there was a time when we needed huge handsets just to place a call, 1Mbps speed was just a myth, roll camera’s were widely used, we had directories for contacts, maps used paper, file was a huge pile of important paperwork, full network was only available at the window and mobile calling was a big thing!
Due to increase in smartphones, the use of computers have rather reduced. People no longer need their machines to access services. Everything is available within our fingertips. Our daily activities have been greatly affected through smartphones. What we cant or don’t want to remember, a smartphone does it for us, which is arguably indirectly making us its slave, or atleast we are extremely dependant on it as it saves a lot of effort.
Hence businesses across the globe are investing their time and money into developing instant services that users can consume. We have very little time these days and hence the need for instant services, in smartphones. Due to the fast growing market of smartphones, the demand is linearly increasing because everything we need resides in a smartphone.
We can say : ” There is nothing a smartphone can’t do! If not today, tomorrow! ”, can we?
Not to forget, that a smartphone is created by us and only we have the sole power to control it, and not letting it control us and our lives. Surely, smartphones come very handy, but have you ever thought that a face to face interaction or having fun with your friends would be much more memorable? Wont’t it be handy if you could memorise a few important contacts and routes when your mobile battery is dead? Wont’t it be more refreshing to watch the view outside a window in country side than listening to music? At times, aren’t human advices better than google? Isn’t it much more fun to draw sketches on a notebook during a lecture rather than surfing Facebook? Why is a digital camera still preferred by photographers than the mobile camera?
Food for thought: Why can’t we live in the moment rather than living in our smartphones?
